ASME B30.5-2025 PDF

ASME B30.5 is one of ASME’s most requested safety standards–widely respected and applied throughout the building and construction industry. It addresses crawler cranes, locomotive cranes, wheel-mounted cranes, and any variations thereof that retain the same fundamental characteristics and are powered by internal combustion engines or electric motors. The scope of this Safety Standard includes only cranes of the above types that are powered by internal combustion engines or electric motors. Side boom tractors and cranes designed for railway and automobile wreck clearance, digger derricks, cranes manufactured specifically for, or when used for, energized electrical line service, knuckle boom, trolley boom cranes, and cranes having a maximum rated capacity of one ton or less are excluded. B30.5 offers comprehensive solutions applying to the construction, inspection, testing, maintenance and operation of mobile and locomotive cranes. It is to be used in conjunction with equipment described in other volumes of the ASME B30 series of safety standards. Careful application of these B30 safety standards will help users to comply with applicable regulations within their jurisdictions, while achieving the operational and safety benefits to be gained from the many industry best-practices detailed in these volumes.

This Guide provides methods to assist manufacturers of any size in making investment decisions for capital and processes. It also provides a reference for economic decision making (e.g., selecting projects with the best economics). This Guide is not a comprehensive review of investment decision making but rather focuses on methods that manufacturers and their staff can readily apply to economically advance manufacturing operations. The methods discussed address four decision types and include net present value, internal rate of return, and payback period. Approximately 75% of Fortune 500 companies indicated that they use net present value for most project decisions (Graham and Harvey,2001). For the internal rate of return, 76% indicated that they use it most of the time and payback period is used by 57% most of the time (Graham and Harvey, 2001). This Guide also discusses rate of return for short-term projects as well as depreciation.

ASME NTB-6-2025 PDF

The purpose of this document is to provide guidance for developing quality finite element models to ensure, with reasonable certainty, that the model produces accurate results for comparison with the strain-based or stress-based acceptance criteria of Section III, Division 3 of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Reference [1]), but could be applicable to other Sections of the Code or other codes. Models developed following the guidance provided in this document meet the definition of a “Quality Model,” as described in Paragraph EE 1240 of the Nonmandatory Appendix EE (Strain-Based Acceptance Criteria Definitions and Background Information). It cannot be emphasized enough, however, that the guidance supplied here does not constitute requirements. Rather, the intent of the guidance is to give practical direction to analysts (i.e., this is not a set of regulatory requirements). This guidance document is an “evolving” document. It will undergo revision as computing capability and FEA techniques progress, and as example problems are developed.
